Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world
Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms, children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process.
What is Montessori?
The learning in a Montessori classroom happens through five areas of learning - Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics and Culture. Through the varied hands-on activities, and a lesson plan that’s unique for each child, the Montessori teacher facilitates the learning by fanning the spark of exploration and curiosity, rather than a mere dump of information.
An authentic Montessori method includes 7 basic elements:
Students select their activities from a range of options
Uninterrupted blocks of time where children can explore and discover
Special teaching materials created from natural substances like wood, cloth, and earth - avoiding manmade materials like plastic
Mixed-age classrooms
A discovery teaching model that allows kids to learn things from working with materials, instead of through traditional instruction
More freedom in the classroom for kids to explore and create
A well-prepared teaching environment where subjects are organized logically and appropriate in size for each child
Why Montessori?
The Montessori Program provides a unique child-directed learning. With very high class ratios of 1 teacher for every 8 students, your child is sure to get the personal attention and direction they need to blossom in these early learning years. The mixed age group allows the child to proceed at his/her own pace, neither waiting for the rest of the class to catch-up, nor feeling left out if they need some more time to grasp a concept. Life isn’t a race to see who can reach the finish line faster - we all have our own unique paths to traverse.
The Montessori Environment is special because it is based on the developmental stages of the child. An authentic Montessori Environment facilitates independence and self-confidence. There is a progressive, activity-based engagement of hand, mind and spirit in a multi-age family like community.
